JUNK BOOK STORE
THE BIGGEST SECONDHAND BOOKSTORE IN MALAYSIA ( Single Store )

Our History in a Nutshell

Junk Book Store first opened for business on 2nd May 1990 in a small room with a space of only 600 sq. ft. on the first floor at Wisma Ann Koai, Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur. Though small in size, the store offers an extensive range of general books, magazines and comics. Much to their astonishment, book lovers find it a real surprise as they could get their hands on almost any topics they want. It is proud to recall they being the wholesaler of quite a number of book rental shops all over in Malaysia.

With business expanding, space getting too cluttered, confidence gained and heartfelt support from customers, plus a shipment of books coming from Australia, the independent owners of this dainty little bookshop, Mr. Tan and Adelyn Koh had to opt for another bigger shop where a three-storey pre-war shoplot, between breaths of carbon monoxide from the perpetually buzzing Jalan Tun H. S. Lee at No. 78 came to be on January 28, 1996.

1998 saw the big triumph as Junk Book Store was awarded "The Biggest Secondhand Bookstore" by the Malaysia Book of Records, first-of-its-kind. Today, over the 16 years of business, the store has a stock of more than 200,000 used and bargain books with a comprehensive selection covering most fields of interest all piled up in corners, crammed into shelves, spread out from the floor to the ceiling.

With the owner's passion of collecting books persisted, also to satiate customers' inquisitiveness and intellectual taste, Junk Book Store has, in early 2004, houses a library on the 2nd floor at this so called colonial-era building. The library is full with treasure trove of out-of-print, rare first edition, hard to find quality books on all subjects (Malaya History, Malaya Published Books, History of all countries, World War II, Biographies, etc., old LP records, magazines and Marvel comics) from the 17th to the 20th century.

Now, with the overwhelming support and demand by the readers and customers all over the world, we are coming out with a website to serve you.

About Us

Situated in the busy town center, about five minutes walk from Central Market, an art and craft/antique/handicraft center where tourists find it hard to miss and about 10 minutes walk from our popular China Town (Petaling Street), a perfect for bargaining when comes to shopping.

The whole ambience of Junk Book Store looks like an old library well stocked with an impressive inventory of books, magazines, Marvel Comics and LP records. There is also a section of foreign languages books where backpackers read and enjoy.

Knowing very well that it is a challenging business and being an independent bookstore, it is undeniably tough to stand a place in the market, not to mention fame and popularity.

Today, with its owners' enthusiasm and determined hard work to source books, Junk Book Store has transformed into a bookstore where one can get the best bargain/choice and the joy of finding a rare book that one has been searching from the creaking shelves full of musty-smelly volumes.
